Dr. Karen Comer is a board certified Small Animal Internal
Medicine Specialist. What does it mean to be "board certified"?
In addition to completing undergraduate training and four years of veterinary
school, board certified specialists have
completed an internship and residency in their specialized field
(an additional 3-5 years academic training). In addition to this
extensive training, a board certified internal medicine specialist
must pass rigorous examinations to achieve board certification from the American College of
Veterinary Internal Medicine (ACVIM). Specialists bring a greater understanding in
the area of internal medicine, and have a greater knowledge
of the unusual, the uncommon, or the rare in companion animals.
Please browse the
ACVIM's page on Small Animal Internal Medicine here for more information on Dr. Comer's specialty.
Dr. Comer also
completed a Masters of Science (MS) degree in Physiology while doing
post-graduate studies at the University of Georgia.
